    Supermoto Rowrah

Rowrah circuit hosted the British Supermoto riders for round 3 of their Championship. Located in a disused quarry the tight and twisty Kart track is ideal for Supermoto. A combination of tarmac, off road and jumps is changing for the riders. It also makes for a great spectating venue. Scott Grant went along to photograph the event, this is his report.

The Rowrah karting circuit, located in Cumbria, has a rich history in the world of karting and motorsport in general. It is widely regarded as one of the most challenging and technical karting tracks in the UK. On the 24th and 25th May Rowrah hosted the third round of the 2025 British Supermoto championship.

The circuit has undergone numerous updates and renovations to keep up with modern standards. This includes resurfacing, the addition of new safety barriers, updated facilities, and improvements to spectator areas.

Rowrah offers designated areas for spectators to watch the action. Depending on the event, there may be a grandstand or elevated areas. These provide good view of the track, especially on the more technical and fast corners where all of the action takes place.

You can also often get up close to the pits and see the bikes being prepped for the races. It’s an exciting way to catch a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the motorsport world.

    Rowrah Facilities

Rowrah also has a café offering refreshments. It’s the usual cafe menu, snacks, hot drinks, and sometimes more substantial meals like burgers or sandwiches.

With Rowrah being a karting circuit, you can see the whole track from a single viewing point. There is not a single high fencing in sight! BONUS! Being an old quarry the site has access limitations. However, taking photos is not a problem as you can achieve 3-4 different angles from each viewing point.

    Supermoto at Rowrah Results

We are not a results service provider but you can find more information here at the British Supermoto website. Local rider Chris Hodgson No.74 (18 times British Supermoto champion) showed dominant form on both race days.

He was challenged by the usual front runners Richard Sharp No.217, Alex Mullaney No.100, Richard Blakeman No.54, Jamie Duncan No.7 and Chris Walker (not the one you’re thinking) No.155.

    Photographic Post Script

Camera gear used on this assignment was my Canon 1DX and 100-400mm II lens. Which is plenty of reach for most parts of the circuit. British Supermoto offers some great close racing and its worth taking the time to visit at least one event. Oh, and did I mention that this particular round was FREE to come and watch!

The next round of the British Supermoto Championship is at Crail Raceway in Anstruther, Scotland on the 21 – 22 June 2025.
