After a successful day yesterday at the Bungalow, a new location was required for the IoM TT Race Day 2. It’s a close call between the Bungalow and the Gooseneck, for which is my favourite spot. Both spots are excellent for taking motorcycle motorsports photography.

    The Gooseneck

Located on the A18 Snaefell mountain road, it’s another popular spot for the spectators and photographers. A twisting uphill S-bend, it’s one of the few spots where the riders slow down. This allows the teams to get timing boards out to tell the riders how they are doing.

When the riders take the bends, they are only 10 miles or so from the finish line in Douglas. Having the team boards here will tell the riders to put the hammer down or celebrate past the large crowds at the Creg public house.

Before the racing started, there was a sighting lap for the solos. A few of the riders came out, reporting back to race control that conditions were far from ideal for racing. Another delay was announced, and a revised schedule published.

Out first would be the sidecars. Followed by the Supertwins, then the Superstock bikes. Or so we thought. The sidecars made a brief appearance, then a 30-minute delay. This was followed by a weather-related cancellation of this session, which forced a decision: we departed.

    Rhencullen Jump

After a brief visit to our accommodation to refuel we set off again. Our next port of call would be up a five foot wall in Sector 6, the Rhencullen Jump. Our thinking was that after the Peter Founds and Jevan Walmsley, sidecar crash we reported on in Qualifying 5 this area might be out of bounds next year. Lightning never strikes twice, or so they say so up the wall we climbed.

    Superstock

The evening racing would now have to be shortened. Two laps for the RL360 Superstock TT Race 1 and Metzeler Supertwin TT Race 1. Looks like the Sidecars got the nasty end of the stick again and weren’t scheduled in.

Counting our blessings we were happy there was to be some racing and what a race it turned out to be. Dean Harrison was triumphant taking his first Superstock and forth TT win. No stranger to the podium this was the first time back on the top step since 2019! Dean Harrison has found a great stable mate with the Honda Racing UK team who are back to winning ways. Hondas last TT win was in 2015.

Davey Todd #8 on the 8TEN racing BMW was second 11 seconds behind and Michael Dunlop #6 third on another BMW. Michael Dunlop says he had a blipper issue from the start of Tuesday’s Isle of Man TT Superstock race, which left him a distant third on his MD Racing BMW.

    Supertwin

In the Supertwin race, Michael Dunlop dominated to claim his 31st career TT victory.

Two first-time podium finishers followed Dunlop home. #5 Michael Evans and #15 Rob Hodson on the Paton S1-R. Last year Hodsons best result was seventh in the second Supertwin TT, which proved to be an excellent ride having had to start from the rear of the field after the Paton refused to fire.

Considering the delays and disruption to the schedule the PistonClick team had quite a productive day. Two locations, two races and a few sighting laps gave us a nice set of images. Tomorrow the racing continues, check back to see how we got on.
