Harewood HillClimb

The Greenwood Cup and Mike Wilson Hillclimb events organised by the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) Yorkshire Centre took place over the weekend of 26th and 27th September 2026.

Rounds seven and eight are the final two rounds of the Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship for the 2026 season but not the final event that the BARC Yorkshire Centre will be organising in 2026. The final event will be Rallye Harewood, which will take place on 12th December.

The event will have a much later start time and finish which will result in competitors taking to the famous Yorkshire hill in the dark. The competitors will need to fit giant Cibie’s lights, or similar, or the more modern light pods to be fitted to their cars. This is not an event for single seaters but road and rally cars, this is a Hillclimb with a difference.

Re-cap of the Championship positions coming into the weekend.

Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship.

Going into the weekend, Mark Teale was leading the Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship, before rounds are dropped and only the best six times are taken into account. Mark driving his highly modified Suzuki Swift. Second is James Hudson who has been driving both a Subaru Impreza and a turbo charged Honda S2000. Third is Rob Spedding driving his Vector TK93F, a Formula Ford 1600cc single seater built before 1994.

Fastest Time of the Day Award Series (FTD).

Glyn Moignard driving his OMS2000M was not at Harewood Hill for the final two rounds. Glyn all the way from the Channel Islands was leading by only one point from John Prickett and Robin Wood both on 30 points. John Prickett driving a Radical PR6 and Robin Wood driving the Force PT with Dave Banner in fourth on 28 points, again before dropped rounds and scores are taken into account.

Joining the Harewood Championship regulars were drivers from the XBC Cross Border Championship, driving a real mix and variety of cars, along with competitors from the MG Car Club and the 500 Owners Club, with two classes for engines either under 500cc or 1100cc.

With blue sky, light cloud and the sun was out for most of the time making the track conditions good for a number of drivers to set new Class records:

Class 15B. MG Cars Groups 3 & 4 Modified.

Simon Jones driving an Austin Healey Sprite

Class 34A. 500 Owners Club (under 500cc)

Frazer Deane driving a 500 Cooper MK9

Class 15c. MG Cars Group 5 & 6 Sports Libre.

Rob Armstrong driving a MG Midget

Class 32. Club Alpine Renault.

Peter Herbert driving one of the new Alpine A110’s

Class 3F. Modified Cars – Specialist Production Kit, Replica & Space-framed cars up to & including 1800cc.

Dave Banner driving a Westfield Megabusa. By setting a new Class Record, Dave got extra points.

This put Dave in first place in the Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship after Saturday’s Greenwood Cup meeting, with Mark Teale dropping down to second place and Anthony Middleton moving up to third but this could all change again on Sunday after the Mike Wilson meeting.

FTD for Saturday was set by Dave Tatham driving his DJ Firehawk, with John Munro driving a 1400cc Force PT setting the second fast and Robin Wood driving a 1070cc Force PT setting the third fastest time.

Mike Wilson Hillclimb.

Sunday morning the weather was grey, overcast and with that, a much cooler start for the first of the Practice runs, which got under way at nine o’clock, this was followed by a second and even a Timed Run before the lunch-break. Throughout the morning we had a couple of light showers, though the track didn’t really get wet it was more slightly greasy and much cooler but that didn’t stop Simon Jones and Rob Armstrong lowering the class records again for 15B and 15C.

The XBC Cross Border Championship, MG Car and 500 Owners Club competitors returned for a second day of competition.

Event abandoned

During the third timed run a car put a wheel onto the grass and was thrown across the track, hitting the Armco hard. The Marshals jumped into action and requested the Darlington and District Rescue unit to attend at Farmhouse Out along with the recovery teams. After the driver was checked out by the paramedic the marshals cleared the track of the debris, the car was removed by the recovery crews. An inspection of the Armco showed too much damage and the meeting had to be abandoned. With the rain now starting, which some forecasts had shown for all day there was only one option, to abandon the event.

Fast Time of the Day was set by Dave Tatham driving his DJ Firehawk. Steve Owen set the second fastest. Steve driving the works OMS 28 RPE, that he shares with his wife Lynn, who was the quickest lady up the famous Yorkshire Hill. Dave’s brother Pete Tatham driving an OMS 25 set third fastest.

Harewood Speed Championship

The 2026 Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship is Mark Teale. Many congratulations to Mark who had been leading the Championship since the Summer Championship meeting back in June, then lost it briefly overnight after the Greenwood Cup meeting on Saturday. It was just 0.45 points between Mark and Dave Banner driving his Westfield Megabusa with Anthony Middleton also in a Westfield in third place. James Hudson was fourth driving the ex-championship Honda S2000.

Fastest Time of the Day Awards Series:

FTD Award was won by Robin Wood driving a Force PT, Robin finished on 43 points. Dave Banner was second, on 40 points and it was Dave Tatham, DJ Firehawk and John Prickett driving a Radical PR6 who were joint third on 39 points.
