The BARC Yorkshire Centre organised a single day of hill-climbing on Sunday 24th August 2025. Summer Championship Hillclimb event was part of the 2025 Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship and Harewood FTD (Fastest Time of the Day) Awards Series.

With an entry of 124 cars, including a large number of Lotus cars, both Road going past and present day, Race cars from the Paul Matty Championship.

The Pre-War Austin Seven Club

The Pre-War Austin Seven Club had a large number of members enjoying the event which was part of the Bert Hadley Memorial Championship, though the club also takes part in road runs, sporting trails, sprints in their little Austin 7’s road or track cars.

Along with 16 or so on two and three wheels with competitors from the National Hill Climb Association also joining in on the action on the famous Yorkshire hill.

Summer Championship Harewood Hillclimb – Sunday 24th August

The morning started off cloudy but the sun did come out during the day but the clouds were never too far away but the main thing was that it was dry and the cloud cover kept the tempertures down, for the main.

The two practice runs and a timed run were completed before the lunch break. Followed by three timed runs in the afternoon, though not all competitors took the opportunity to take the forth timed run.

Jonathan Mounsey

2005 Harewood Speed Hillclimb Champion Jonathan Mounsey returned to the hill after several years rallying. He shared the Mitsubishi Evo VIII with owner Tony Booth. Will we see Jonathan on December 13th on the hill again for something a little different?

More news on this event to follow, when details are released but what we do know is that some of the runs will take part on the hill during the day but at that time of the year what we do know is that it gets dark early so a hillclimb taking part during fading light and or near darkness, unless the car has headlights of course.

Summer Championship Harewood Hillclimb – Results

The Marshalling and Recovery Teams had a couple of incidents to deal with including an off by one of the sidecars, thankfully after a check up both crews were fine but the sidecar unit continued the rest of the day, minus most of the bodywork. Neither of which seemed to put Ben Kent-Brown and Ethan Bittley, off because it was the fastest three wheeled Motorcycle and Sidecar up the hill.

The fastest on two wheels was Paul Jeffery riding a KTM SMR.

Several drivers managed to set their own personnel best times during the day and one class record was set. Class 19A for Pre-war Austin 7 Club Road Car was set by Donald Skelton. The class record had stood since 5th June 2010.

2024 Harewood Speed Hillclimb Champion Adam Riley still leads the Championship going into the final weekend in September.

Second is Henry Moorhouse driving a new 2 litre Westfield, so has moved up a class as his old car was a 1600cc.

Third is Mark Teale driving his Suzuki Swift and John Prickett driving his Radical RP6 is in fourth place.

The Fast Time of the Day was set by David Tatham driving his DJ Firehawk with John Prickett driving his Radical RP6 taking second and Stephen Owen driving his Westfield 7 taking third (Not the same driver and owner of OMS cars).
