    Sunday Qualifying 5

IoM TT Sunday Qualifying 5 was a contingency day and was planned to scoop up all the riders that hadn’t set a time yet at the 2025 TT. Before Qualifying 5 started , the Legacy Lap riders were commemorating the fallen riders at the TT. First introduced in memory of Simon Andrews it was held in inclement weather. However, there was a great turnout with the watching crowds cheering them on. It was and is a fitting way to remember and celebrate the fallen riders.

Once the roads were open, we headed for Creg Ny Baa. I’ve never liked this spot mainly as my previous visits have seen cancellations due to rain every time I’ve turned up. It was looking the same as we rode over the mountain with no more than 100m visibility.

It did play into my hands as all of the spectators already there were taking cover from the rain. The pick of the best spots to take photos were available to me. RPW pulled out his media bib and signed on and took cover in the pub. I headed for a ditch; the glamour of motorsport photography is one of the things that attracted me to this job….

As it usually is at this year’s TT, there was another delay. Arriving at 10 for a rescheduled 14:30 start didn’t seem like a good idea. Until the sound of engines echoed around the mountains.

The sidecars were not scheduled to start the session, but the track was still damp, so they were sent out first. It was all going well until lap 2 when Peter Founds and Jevan Walmsley, #2, crashed at Rhencullen.

The organisers reported Peter conscious and talking, with arm injuries. Passenger, Jevan, is reported as conscious and talking, with no reported injuries.

Both, Peter and Jevan, have been taken to Noble’s Hospital by AirMed for further assessment. We wish them well and a speedy recovery.

After a short delay with the standard rain shower that we are reluctantly getting used to this year, qualifying 5 continued. Out next was a mixed bag of Super, Stock, and Sport bikes. This is what I look forward to, motorcycles brushing the grass next to you at crazy speeds.

In the final session of the day, the twins came out with their distinctive sound booming out. All too soon, the last bike went past, and it was all over. Overall, not a bad session; some weather and two crashes delayed proceedings, but from my perspective, it went well. Both of us had captured some nice photos, nothing we would consider outstanding but very nice.

With IoM TT Sunday Qualifying 5 and all qualifying finally over, the racing now starts. Check back here to see how we got on for race day one at the IoM TT 2025.
