During my visit to Japan earlier this autumn (road trip report in progress…), I took the chance to stop by the Fuji Speedway and take a few photographs. As fortune would have it, the GT-R Festival was being held for the famous models of Nissan sports cars and supercars.

The cars at the show ranged from the iconic Group A Calsonic R32 GT-R, which won 19 consecutive races, to the latest R35 GT-R. On the track, there were demonstration runs and owners getting out to drive this famous circuit, there was also a BRZ/GT86 drift event on the Gymkhana course.

If you ever get the opportunity to visit Japan and the GT-R Festival I would recommend checking it out. But when you arrive don’t rush into the show, take your time and look round the spectator car park. This was an automotive spotter’s delight, it’s not often you get this many classic vehicles in one place!

There were not only Nissan GT-R and GTTs but a range of classic and modern Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) cars parked up. The stand out car had to be the Hakosuka, the boxy Skyline. Hako is the Japanese word for box, and Suka the abbreviation for Skyline, Hakosuka. Probably not an original KPGC10 Skyline GT-R but a stunning looking car none the less.

There was so much going on at the Fuji Speedway it required a return trip, so here’s a postcard of my two days at the circuit. I photographed this event with my Nikon D780 DSLR camera with a Nikkor 24-120mm lens and a Sony Xperia 10 IV. Even on a dull overcast day it’s well worth a visit!.
