The 2026 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship produced another thrilling weekend at Oulton Park, with controversy, close racing and major championship implications shaping the action. Dan Cammish secured two victories to revive his title challenge, Ash Sutton strengthened his championship lead with a dominant Race Two performance, and Charles Rainford claimed reverse-grid success to continue his impressive season.

With seven winners from the opening 12 races, the BTCC remains one of the most competitive championships in motorsport. Oulton Park once again demonstrated why every point matters as the series headed into its summer break before returning at Thruxton.

Qualifying Race Penalty Changes the Outcome
Saturday’s Qualifying Race delivered drama from the opening lap. Tom Chilton ran off approaching Island Bend, causing the field to bunch up behind him. Soon after, contact involving James Dorlin, Gordon Shedden and Dan Rowbottom sent both Shedden and Rowbottom into the pits for repairs. The race then fell under safety car conditions after Nic Hamilton spun into the barriers at Island Bend.

When racing resumed, Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport driver Árón Taylor-Smith appeared to have everything under control at the front. However, officials later handed him a five-second penalty for continuing to weave after the safety car lights had been extinguished.
The decision transformed the result. Instead of victory, Taylor-Smith dropped down the order, promoting Dan Cammish to first place for NAPA Racing UK.

Josh Cook pressured Cammish throughout the race but could not find a way past. Behind them, Ash Sutton and Tom Ingram produced one of the standout battles of the season. The pair traded positions repeatedly and made contact at the final corner on lap eight before Ingram immediately returned the place.
Sutton finished third ahead of Ingram, while Taylor-Smith’s penalty pushed him back to fifth. Adam Morgan impressed with seventh place, while Dexter Patterson, Aiden Moffat and Chris Smiley completed the top ten. The victory gave Cammish valuable momentum and set the tone for the rest of the weekend.

Cammish Converts Pole Into Race One Success
Cammish carried his strong form into Sunday’s opening race. Starting from pole position, he made a clean getaway and quickly established control at the front. Josh Cook remained close throughout the contest, but Cammish never made a mistake and consistently delivered competitive lap times.
The NAPA Racing UK driver crossed the line to secure his first BTCC victory at Oulton Park and the 18th win of his championship career. Cook finished second despite early contact with Ash Sutton and constant pressure from reigning champion Tom Ingram. Ingram eventually completed the podium after another measured drive.

Taylor-Smith added a fourth-place finish, while Audi teammates Aiden Moffat and Mikey Doble entertained fans with a hard-fought but clean battle for fifth.
Sutton’s race proved far more difficult. After challenging near the front, contact and an off-track moment at the chicane dropped him down the order. He recovered to finish seventh but lost ground to his championship rivals.
Elsewhere, Adam Morgan retired with mechanical issues, ending what had looked like another promising result. Tom Chilton, Chris Smiley and Daryl De Leon rounded out the top ten. Most importantly for Cammish, the win brought him firmly back into championship contention.

Sutton Delivers a Championship Statement
Race Two belonged entirely to Ash Sutton. Starting seventh on the grid, Sutton used the soft Goodyear tyre and additional TOCA Turbo Boost allocation to maximum effect. He sliced through the field with remarkable efficiency and quickly reached the leading group.
After catching teammate Dan Cammish, Sutton’s superior pace became obvious. Cammish chose not to delay the championship leader, allowing Sutton to focus on building an advantage. Once in clean air, Sutton disappeared. He extended his lead lap after lap and eventually won by more than 19 seconds, producing one of the most dominant BTCC performances in recent years.

Behind him, Tom Ingram passed Cammish to secure second place, while Cammish completed the podium despite running the less favourable hard tyre. Taylor-Smith could not repeat his earlier pace and gradually slipped backwards. Daryl De Leon, Mikey Doble and Gordon Shedden all found a way through before officials later issued Taylor-Smith another penalty following contact with Tom Chilton.

The result strengthened Sutton’s championship position and reinforced his reputation as the driver to beat in 2026.

Rainford Wins the Reverse-Grid Finale
The final race of the weekend produced another winner and more drama. Chris Smiley started from pole position, but Charles Rainford immediately emerged as the main threat. The WSR BMW driver launched brilliantly and moved into second before the field completed the opening lap.
The race quickly descended into chaos. Taylor-Smith lost control on cold tyres at Old Hall Corner and collected Adam Morgan while trying to recover. Both drivers retired instantly, bringing out the safety car.

At the restart, Rainford made his move. He carried impressive speed out of Old Hall Corner and swept around the outside of Smiley at Cascades to take the lead. A second safety car period followed after a heavy collision involving Tom Chilton and Lewis Selby.

When racing resumed, Rainford remained in complete control. Ricky Collard and Tom Ingram chased hard but never mounted a serious challenge. Rainford secured his second victory of the season and further enhanced his growing reputation as one of the BTCC’s brightest talents.

Cammish finished fourth ahead of Cook, while Dan Rowbottom claimed sixth after one of his strongest performances of the year. Dexter Patterson, Sutton and Moffat completed the top ten.

Championship Picture Before the Summer Break
Oulton Park could prove to be a pivotal weekend in the 2026 BTCC season. Seven different drivers have now won races across the opening 12 rounds, highlighting the depth of competition throughout the field.
Dan Cammish enjoyed his strongest weekend of the campaign and collected a significant points haul. Ash Sutton extended his championship advantage with another clinical display of speed and consistency. Tom Ingram continued to score heavily with three podium finishes, ensuring he remains a serious title contender.

Charles Rainford also strengthened his credentials by becoming only the second multiple race winner of the season.
In the supporting championship battles, NAPA Racing UK and Alliance Racing/Ford continue to lead the Teams’ and Manufacturers’ standings. Mikey Doble remains the leading Independent driver, while Dexter Patterson moved to the top of the Jack Sears Trophy standings after another successful weekend.
