BTCC Brands Hatch 2026: Sutton Stars as Taylor-Smith Ends 10-Year Wait
The 2026 British Touring Car Championship delivered another dramatic weekend at the iconic Brands Hatch Indy circuit.
Earth, wind, fire and Árón Taylor-Smith, BTCC Brands Hatch 2026 had it all. From aggressive wheel-to-wheel battles to changing weather conditions to cool the heat and emotional victories. Rounds four, five and six of the season produced one of the most chaotic weekends of the year so far.
With the championship battle tightening and multiple contenders fighting at the front, every session carried major significance.

Qualifying
In one of the most competitive qualifying sessions of the season, pole position for the all-new qualifying race looked open to almost anyone on the grid.
Lap times changed constantly throughout the session. Drivers traded fastest laps repeatedly while several penalties were issued for various infringements. Reigning champion Tom Ingram eventually emerged on top. The Hyundai driver edged the field by just one tenth of a second.
Dan Cammish secured second place, while Daryl De Leon completed the top three.

Qualifying Race
The action began immediately once the lights went out. Ingram and De Leon battled fiercely into the opening laps as both drivers fought for pole position and valuable points heading into Sunday’s opening race.
De Leon launched an aggressive move into Graham Hill Bend, forcing Ingram to defend heavily. Their fight opened the door for Ash Sutton, who made a superb start and dived through on the inside to steal the lead.
From there, Sutton controlled the race expertly. Despite pressure behind, he maintained his advantage and crossed the line first to secure victory in the qualifying race and pole position for race one.

BTCC Brands Hatch 2026 – Race One
Sutton entered Sunday’s opening race with extra motivation. The four-time champion stood on the verge of his 50th BTCC victory. Off the line, Sutton held the lead comfortably before Ricky Collard mounted a serious challenge. The pair traded positions and battled aggressively during the early stages. Sutton eventually gained the upper hand and controlled the remainder of the race to claim a landmark 50th BTCC win.
Behind the leaders, the midfield descended into chaos. One of the most dramatic moments came when Lewis Selby made contact with Aiden Moffat exiting Druids. The contact sent Moffat spinning towards the barriers. Fortunately, he managed to avoid heavy impact and continued the race, although he dropped to the back of the field.
Selby later received a ten-second time penalty for the incident.

BTCC Brands Hatch 2026 – Race Two
Weather conditions deteriorated significantly before race two, hopefully it would cool everyone down. The rain was threatening to completely alter the complexion of the race. Teams faced a major gamble over tyre strategy, deciding whether to remain on slick tyres or switch for the worsening conditions.
At the front, Sutton and Collard resumed their battle after another strong launch from the grid. However, the race soon belonged to Árón Taylor-Smith. Starting 13th on the grid, Taylor-Smith carved his way through the field with remarkable pace and confidence. His defining move came at Paddock Hill Bend, where he overtook Collard for the lead. From there, he produced a commanding drive in treacherous conditions to secure his first BTCC victory in ten years. It was one of the standout performances of the season so far.
Elsewhere, Nic Hamilton impressed with a strong drive to 11th place. It marked his best result yet in a Vertu-backed car and his second-best BTCC finish overall.

BTCC Brands Hatch 2026 – Race Three
The final race of the weekend featured another dramatic twist thanks to the reverse-grid draw. James Dorlin started from pole position and initially defended brilliantly under heavy pressure from Sutton and Ingram.
Sutton produced an exceptional launch from seventh on the grid and quickly moved into contention for the lead. For several laps, he harassed Dorlin relentlessly while trying to force an opening.
Meanwhile, Ingram steadily climbed through the order from fifth place. Eventually, the Hyundai driver broke through and disrupted Dorlin’s hopes of a breakthrough victory. Ingram seized control of the race and powered to victory to end the weekend on top form.
Sutton settled for second place but maintained control of the drivers’ championship standings. Further down the order, Mikey Doble secured an impressive third-place finish. The result helped LKQ Euro Car Parts with Power Maxed Racing retain the lead in the Independent Teams’ standings.

A Weekend to Remember
Brands Hatch once again delivered classic BTCC entertainment. Sutton strengthened his championship challenge with another victory and consistent podium finishes. Ingram reminded the field why he remains one of the strongest contenders in the series, while Taylor-Smith’s emotional return to the top step provided one of the stories of the season.
With unpredictable weather, relentless overtaking and championship momentum constantly shifting, the 2026 BTCC season continues to build towards an explosive title fight.
BTCC Support Races
The Brands Hatch support bill delivered a high-speed mix of elite GTs, junior single-seaters, and frantic hatchback racing. While the Porsche Carrera Cup and British F4 provide professional precision, the MINI CHALLENGE and the newly added Caterham Sevens offer the close-quarters, slipstreaming chaos that BTCC fans love. Together, they were well received and bridged the gaps between BTCC rounds well with diverse track action.
