BSB Oulton Park Round 6

The Triple R Show Arrives in Cheshire – Ryde, Redding and Ray Battle It Out.

PistonClick photographer Scott Grant went along to capture a hot and dusty Round Six of the BSB Championship at Oulton Park. After the previous round at Brands Hatch, Kyle Ryde held a comfortable lead but faced challenges from Scott Redding Bradley Ray and Leon Haslam all eager to disrupt the Ducati rider’s dominance.

Oulton Park’s demanding track, characterised by tight corners blind crests and close barriers, demands unwavering commitment and precision. The summer sun drew a large crowd, who were treated to three exhilarating races with manufacturers vying fiercely for the top spot.

Ducati boasted speed but Yamaha Honda and Bimota were not far behind. Bradley Ray, determined to bounce back after a challenging Brands Hatch, and Scott Redding, seeking to maintain his momentum from his Kent victory, were key players. Throughout the weekend, the championship delivered the kind of close racing late lunges and twists of fortune that make BSB truly captivating.

Race One: Bradley Ray Claims Victory

Bradley Ray claimed victory in the opening ZYN British Superbike Championship race at Oulton Park after a thrilling six-rider battle, leading home Kyle Ryde and Leon Haslam.

The AJN Steelstock Bimota duo of Max Cook and rookie Joe Talbot made the best start, with Cook leading the early laps. Ray moved into contention by lap five before taking the lead on lap eight, although Storm Stacey briefly fought his way to the front.

Ray regained the lead with bold overtakes on Haslam at Lodge and Old Hall, then resisted late pressure from Haslam and Ryde. Ryde passed Haslam for second on lap 16, leaving the Moto Rapido Racing rider to complete the podium.

Stacey matched his best result of the season in fourth, while Scott Redding finished fifth. Cook crashed out at Cascades while running fifth, promoting Ryan Vickers, Joe Talbot, Jason O’Halloran, Christian Iddon and Glenn Irwin into the top ten.

Race Two – Ryde Hits Back

Kyle Ryde claimed victory in an incident-packed second BSB race at Oulton Park, passing Bradley Ray on the penultimate lap to take the win, with Scott Redding completing the podium.

Ray made the perfect start to lead Redding, Ryan Vickers and Storm Stacey, while Ryde climbed from eighth on the opening lap to fourth by lap four. Early crashes for Graeme Irwin and Dan Brooks debuting on the MasterMac Honda were followed by Josh Brookes crashing at Druids on lap seven, bringing out the Safety Car.

At the restart, Ryde immediately passed Redding before closing on Ray. He made the decisive move at Island Bend on the penultimate lap and held off the McAMS Yamaha rider to secure victory. Redding finished third, ahead of Vickers and Max Cook.

Joe Talbot impressed again in sixth for AJN Steelstock Bimota, followed by Jason O’Halloran, Storm Stacey, Glenn Irwin and Christian Iddon.

Race Three – Ryde Seals the Deal

Kyle Ryde completed a dominant weekend at Oulton Park with his second victory of the meeting, holding off Scott Redding in a tense final race as Bradley Ray finished third.

Ray led from pole at the start before Redding took the lead on lap three. Ryde passed Ray two laps later and then seized the lead after Redding ran wide at Hislops, making his move into Knickerbrook.

Despite late pressure from Redding, Ryde held on for victory, with Ray securing the final podium place. An improving Ryan Vickers finished fourth ahead of Leon Haslam and Max Cook. Rory Skinner, Storm Stacey, Ilya Mikhalchik and Lee Jackson completed the top ten.

The race saw retirements for Glenn Irwin, Danny Kent and Christian Iddon following separate crashes.

Championship Picture: Ryde Dominates

Leaving Oulton Park, Ryde’s championship lead is even stronger. His two wins and a second place have solidified his position and demonstrated his consistent performance.

Ray’s victory in Race One reaffirmed Yamaha’s winning potential. With three podiums, he remains firmly in the hunt. Haslam’s steady weekend propelled him into contention while Redding’s pace, though not enough for wins, kept him close enough to challenge.

Max Cook and Bimota continue to impress, consistently challenging the factory teams and even leading laps. While victories may not be imminent, their progress seems promising with each round. Ryan Vickers was so close to stepping onto the podium. Honda are not too far away but the championship looks to sailed for them.

The championship now moving into the second half of the season, Ryde has established himself as the rider to beat. However, Ray, Redding and Haslam have all demonstrated they possess the pace to challenge him, setting up what promises to be a fascinating run towards the Showdown. If Oulton Park proved anything, it is that every race weekend can significantly reshape the championship picture, and no lead can be taken for granted.
