Report by Chris Bannister.
7 August 2025.

Competitors climbed the famous Yorkshire hill over the weekend of 2nd and 3rd August 2025 for the BARC Yorkshire Centre’s Yorkshire Speed and Montague Burton Hillclimb meetings.

Both events were part of the Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship. Also joining the Harewood regular competitors were a large number of competitors from the Northampton Motorsport Caterham and Lotus Seven Club Speed Championship.

Saturday 2nd August Yorkshire Speed Hillclimb
With variable cloud cover, the event got underway at nine o’clock with a bit of a breeze which picked up in the afternoon and the sun finally came out. Which meant that the track was in a good condition, as three class records would fall.
With two practice runs and a timed run were completed before the lunch break followed by three more timed runs in the afternoon.
After the off at the Jim Thomson Hillclimb event back in June, when Doug Mitchell, driving the VW UP, went on to the grass, hit the tyres and Armco coming out of Farmhouse bend, during his third timed run. He was assisted by the Marshals and slowly drove up the track afterwards. Adam Riley who he shares the car with, did not take his third timed run, due to damaged to the water to air intercooler which was split. However the car was fixed and out competing the following Saturday at Barbon Hillclimb.

Class 1A
2024 Harewood Speed Hillclimb Champion Adam Riley beat his own class record in 1A for Series Production Road Cars up to and including 1400cc.

Class 1D
In Class 1D for Series Production Road Cars over 2000cc and 4 wheel drive, James Hudson driving his Subura Impreza. This class record had stood since September 2018 and was previously set by Jonathan Mounsey driving a Mitsubishi Evo 6.

Class 2A
In Class 2A Road Cars, Specialist Production Kit, Replica and Space-framed Cars up to and including 1700cc. Henry Moorhouse driving his Honda powered Westfield, also beat his own class record.

Fastest Time of the Day (FTD) was set by Mark Hemingway driving his Force TA, second was Dave Tatham driving his DJ Firehawk and third was John Prickett driving his Radical PR6. This was a good recovery by John, who due to technical difficulties, had not taken any practice runs.

Sunday 3rd August Montague Burton Hillclimb
Competitors from the Northampton Motorsport Caterham and Lotus Seven Club Speed Championship were back on track for a second day of competitive action on the hill.

Along with 30 or so different drivers from yesterday and with competitors from the Harewood Speed Championship we had a full entry of 150 drivers for the second day.

With two practice runs and a timed run completed before the lunch-break. However in the first timed run in the afternoon and after a couple of cars had set off, they was a timing issue so the event had to be stopped while the time keepers got it sorted. So after a 15 minute or so delay the event got under way again and the couple of cars that had taken to the hill, prior to the indecent, got a re-run. With this delay and after several red flags competitors got two more timed runs.
Adam Riley driving his VW Up is still leading the 2025 Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship. Second is Henry Moorhouse driving his Honda powered Westfield and third is Mark Teale driving his Suzuki Swift.

The Fast Time of the Day (FTD) was set again by Mark Hemingway driving his Force TA, second was Dave Tatham driving his DJ Firehawk and third was Stephen Owen driving his OMS RPE.

In the FTD Award Series Mark Hemingway driving his Force TA leads from Dave Tatham driving his DJ Firehawk in second place and John Prickett driving his Radical RP6 is in third place.
