Curborough Sprint Track is an enjoyable grassroots motorsport venue to photograph. It’s fast, technical, and most importantly accessible in a way that very few circuits are today. Running events most weekends from March through to October, Curborough has built a reputation as a favourite among both competitors and photographers.

Photographic Locations
Curborough Location & Access
Located just north of Lichfield (WS13 8EJ), the circuit sits just off the A38. Follow signs for Fradley Park (not Fradley Village), then pick up the brown tourist signs for the sprint course. Be aware that ongoing HS2 roadworks near the entrance can cause minor delays, but access is always maintained.
Curborough Sprint Track Layout
Curborough is a compact sprint circuit with multiple configurations:
- Single lap – 831m
- Double lap – 1,447m
- Figure of Eight – 1,467m
The lap begins with a straight-line launch into a fast left-hander, followed by a right bend into a chicane, leading to the tight Fradley Hairpin, and finishing on a short straight.
The double lap and figure-of-eight layouts add complexity, especially with the crossover section, offering more variety for photographers.

Why Curborough is great for Photography
Curborough stands out for one key reason: accessibility.
- Free entry for spectators
- Free parking
- No high catch fencing
- Extremely close proximity to the track
This is increasingly rare in UK motorsport. At Curborough, you can shoot from angles that would normally require media credentials elsewhere. Because of this, you don’t need expensive super-telephoto lenses. A 70–200mm lens is more than enough for most on-track action, making it ideal for beginners and enthusiasts alike.

Paddock & Facilities
One of Curborough’s biggest strengths is its open and welcoming paddock.
- Public access is allowed
- Drivers are approachable and happy to chat
- Great opportunities for detail and lifestyle shots
- Families are welcome, drivers often let kids sit in cars during breaks

Facilities include:
- Toilets located at the paddock entrance
- Circuit office on-site
- The Sprinters Rest Café, located near race control
The café offers affordable food options, including full English breakfasts, hot drinks, and a particularly good hot chocolate, perfect for early morning shoots. There’s covered seating as well as picnic benches trackside.

Accessibility is also considered, with a raised viewing platform for wheelchair users and a grass banking area with benches along the straight.
Photographic Locations – Curborough Sprint Circuit
Start Line
Access is restricted here, so photography isn’t normally permitted without special permission.
A – Paddock Bend
A great vantage point to capture cars accelerating from the start line braking hard into the first corner.

This spot works well for showing early speed and driver commitment as they settle into the run.
B – Race Control Area
This location offers a couple of strong angles for committed drivers into the first corner.

Along the straight toward the finish, capturing drivers pushing hard.

If the figure-of-eight layout is in use, you can also catch cars turning in for the second leg.

C – Mole Hill Chicane / Figure-of-Eight Crossing
A must-visit spot regardless of the layout. This section delivers the most drama.
The short run into Mole Hill often catches drivers out, making for exciting, unpredictable shots.

When drivers get it right, you’ll capture beautifully composed, committed cornering.

From here, you also get a mid-point view of the Shenstone Straight as cars accelerate toward the finish.

D – Fradley Hairpin
A long, sweeping hairpin that really shows both mechanical grip and driver confidence.

For a more unique angle, walk around the toilet block toward the trees. There’s a quieter spot by the fence often overlooked by other photographers (watch out for nettles). From here, you can capture cars exiting the hairpin from behind.

Curborough Sprint Track
Curborough isn’t about glamour. You won’t find grandstands, corporate hospitality, or high-end spectacle.
What you will find is:
- Close-up, unrestricted access
- Friendly drivers and a relaxed atmosphere
- Excellent opportunities for both track and paddock photography
For motorsport photographers, especially those starting out or looking to refine their skills, Curborough Sprint Track is hard to beat. If you’re after polished, high-profile racing, this isn’t the place. But if you want authentic, grassroots motorsport with unmatched access circuit, paddock and drivers, Curborough is absolutely worth a visit.
